Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Registered Investment Adviser (RIA) and how is it different?

A Registered Investment Adviser (RIA) is a professional advisory firm that offers personalized financial advice to its clients, many of whom are affluent. We work with complex portfolios and address unique needs that require a highly customized level of investment management strategy and consultation. We serve high net worth and ultra-high net worth individuals, families, foundations, 401(k)s, retirement accounts, IRAs, trusts, endowments, charitable organizations and foundations. We maintain a fiduciary responsibility to our clients. Simply stated, as an RIA, the client’s interests must always come first.

Do you charge an initial consultation fee?

We provide a complimentary, no obligation consultation and will offer you professional investment advice. Additionally, we provide a complimentary, comprehensive portfolio analysis for clients we choose to work with on a long-term basis ($1,000 value).

What is your approach to investing? How are you different?

We offer something different. When sharp downturns in the market occur, we do not simply stand by and reassure you that everything will be fine. We take action. We create innovative management solutions that capitalize on asset growth during positive market environments and decisively shift our portfolios to a defensive position when market internals weaken and intermediate price trends turn negative. We adhere to a highly disciplined investment process that clearly and consistently focuses on attaining each client’s financial objectives. At Stern Brothers, our goal is to achieve “Absolute Return” on your investment. An Absolute Return investment seeks to produce positive results regardless of market direction or trends.

How are you compensated?

Our fee structure is completely transparent. We calculate a fee based on the amount of assets under management. There are no front-end sales charges, no back-end redemption or withdrawal fees, no administrative costs, no annual maintenance fees, no account setup fees, or initial consultation charges. We believe that we should only be compensated by growing your portfolio.

Do you have a refund policy?

Your money always remains your money. Your assets are held at a trusted, nationally recognized, third-party custodian. We do not charge fees for withdrawals. We believe you should not only earn a return ON your money, but also the return OF your money.

Do you offer any guaranteed results?

No, and you should be suspicious of anyone that does.

If you are going to manage my account, will you need my permission every time you buy or sell something?

No, we will initially ask for a trading authorization form to be signed. This allows us to manage your account knowing your risk tolerance and investment goals.
